Caitlin's Way might sound like the name of a street, but it is actually Nickelodeon's newest show. Caitlin Seeger (played by Lindsay Felton) is a 14-year-old orphan from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, who keeps landing in hot water.
After getting in trouble with the law, she must choose between moving to Montana to live with relatives she doesn't know or growing up under the eagle eyes of Philadelphia's law enforcers.
Caitlin decides to give Montana a try. But can a city girl make it in the country? Find out when the 90-minute Caitlin's Way movie, Stray, airs in the SNICK House on Saturday, March 11, at 8 PM.

Caitlin's Way will air regularly on Sundays at 8 PM starting March 12. Show airs one hour earlier in the central time zone. Show times subject to change. Check www.nick.com, America Online (keyword: nick), or local listings for details.

BANDIT ON THE RUN: Caitlin spends time with Bandit, a stallion she befriends after he saves her from a wolf attack.

HEY, HERB!

Where you ask the president of Nickelodeon, Herb Scannell, anything you want.

What is your favorite season?
I like the spring, when daylight saving time starts. Getting an extra hour of daylight makes me remember when I was a kid. I'd stay out until eight o'clock, It's kid-liberation time.

Have you ever been to Africa to see wild animals?
No. I've never been to Africa. I like seeing animals, but I don't really want to be out in the wild with them. I like the idea of being protected.

Why do you think dogs don't like cats?
Cats have such snobbish attitudes and dogs are very friendly. Cats don't want to give dogs the time of day. A cat is like an older sister who won't pay attention to her little brother.

Double Dare 2000

As the host of Double Dare 2000, Jason Harris watches other people do messy and difficult stunts. When he visited our offices on a chilly morning, we thought it was time for Jason to get a taste of his own medicine. (Actually, it was a taste of whipped cream topped with cherries.) We locked his coat in an office-and hid the key in one of 36 bowls of whipped cream arranged to form the number 2000 (above). His challenge: to find the key without using his hands.

A MAN, A PLAN Jason checks out the situation and comes up with a strategy. With 36 bowls of whipped cream to choose from, he decides to go for the dishes with the most whipped cream first.

DOES HE NEED A SHAVE? Jason digs in. After a few tries, he starts to wonder if the key is anywhere to be found. But he can't give up unless he wants to really chill in New York City for good.

THE KEY TO SUCCESS After 40 seconds and five bowls of whipped cream, Jason gets lucky...well, if only he had a few napkins.

VICTORY! The triumphant Double Dare 2000 host is ready to pick up his coat and get back to the set in Orlando, Florida, where he's the one handing out the challenges!

Double Dare 2000 airs on weekdays at 5 PM. Show airs one hour earlier in the central time zone. Show time is subject to change. Check www.nick.com, America Online (keyword: nick), or local listings for details.

Bark My Words

On the show 100 Deeds for Eddie McDowd, a man called The Drifter puts a curse on Eddie McDowd and turns him into a dog. We got Seth Green, the voice behind the pooch, to sit, stay, and talk to us.

NICKELODEON MAGAZINE: What's it like portraying a dog rather than a person?
SETH GREEN: Since he's a dog who was once a person, it's not that different--save for his insatiable desire for Snausages.

Do you find yourself using your dog voice when you're not recording the show?
All the time--in restaurants, in banks, and [joking] with police.

Have you ever tried your dog voice on real dogs?
Yes. They were initially unresponsive, but after some time I gained their confidence and they shared all their doggie secrets.

Do you have to watch the dog's lips when you record his voice for each scene?
Dogs don't have lips. That's why they lap water instead of using straws and they can't chew with their mouths closed. But if they did, I might.

What would you consider a treat after a good day's work?
Snausages.

Do you have any pets?
I have dogs and cats, but I really want a monkey.

100 Deeds for Eddie McDowd airs Saturdays at 9 PM in the SNICK House.

TV Goes KABLAM! | Ooze News | Halloween | October 1996

Ooze News - October 1996

TV Goes

KABLAM!

Action League Now!'s Thundergirl, Meltman and Justice blast off.

KABLAM! isn't just the sound of exploding dynamite; it's also the name (and noise) of Nickelodeon's new Friday night show, which starts October 11 at 8 PM*.

KABLAM! is a half-hour cartoon variety show hosted by two wisecracking cartoon kids named Henry and June. The show crams at least five cartoons into each episode. Plus, KABLAM! looks totally different from other shows because it mixes all kinds of animation.

Here's a look at some of the cartoons that go KABLAM!

HENRY AND JUNE

Starring: Henry and June

What it's about: Henry and June are best friends who live inside a comic book. They pop up a few times each episode - letting their imaginations run wild, dreaming up nutty situations, and introducing the other KABLAM! segments.

Get used to hearing: "Kablammy" and "Kablammerific" to describe anything that's good or funny.

How it's done: Computer animation: The pictures are hand-drawn and then animated using computers.

SNIZ AND FONDUE

Starring: Sniz, Fondue, Bianca, and Snuppa

What it's about: Sniz and Fondue are two wacky cats who get into a lot of trouble. Sniz, who's smaller (and louder), drags the nervous Fondue into the thick of things.

Get used to hearing: "Cut me an over-sized wedge!" which is Sniz and Fondue's way of saying "Give me a break!" When Sniz is very excited, he says, "Snap me down!"

How it's done: Cel animation. Several slightly different character drawings are made on celluloid (clear plastic sheets). One at a time, the drawings (or cels) are placed on a background drawing and then photographed. When all those photos are run in order, it looks like the character is moving. Cel animation is used to make many cartoons, including Rugrats.

ACTION LEAGUE NOW!

Starring: Thundergirl, Meltman, The Chief, The Flesh, Stinky Diver, Justice, and The Mayor

What it's about: A motley crew of action figures clumsily tries to make the world a better place.

Get used to hearing: "Ouchies!" after The Flesh has been crushed. The Chief yells "Blast it!" when he's in fear of being blown up.

How it's done: CHUCKIMATION and stop-action. CHUCKIMATION is pretty low-tech. To make the characters look like they're flying, people off-camera throw (or chuck) the action figures into the camera frame.

In stop-action animation, 3-D objects (such as the action figures) are photographed each time they are moved. When all those photographs are seen in rapid succession, the figures look like they're moving on their own. James and the Giant Peach was filmed using stop-action.

Also look for:

Prometheus and Bob

Life With Loopy

Plus Angela Anaconda, The Offbeats, and Patch Head.

* All times are for eastern and Pacific time zones. Show airs one hour earlier in the central time zone. Times subject to change. Check your local listings for details.

Hey, Herb!

Where you ask the president of Nickelodeon, Herb Scannell, anything you want.

What is the worst Halloween costume you have ever worn?
When I started working for Nickelodeon, I went to a party as the color orange. All my clothes - including my socks and shoes - were orange. I even painted my hands, neck, face, and ears with orange greasepaint. And when I got home, I tried to wash the paint off, but my ears stayed orange. They looked like they were radioactive. It took about a week for me to get all the paint off.

What was your favorite candy as a kid?
Sweetarts were my favorite candy until I was about nine years old. One day I bought a giant Sweetart. I ate about half of it and couldn't eat any more. The other half sat in the fridge for almost a year, until it was finally thrown away. That Sweetart conquered me.

Oops, here come the fangs... and there goes my retainer. (More growling and snorting.) Boy, I could really go for some Ken-L Ration. (Lots of growling.) Please leave a message at the sound of the (long howl).

Answers on page 58.

Hey, Herb!

Where you ask the president of Nickelodeon, Herb Scannell, anything you want.

Do you have a nickname?

Not really. Some people call me Herbie. When I was a kid, I had a couple of nicknames. For about a month, my brother teased me and called me Egbert, after a character in a W.C. Fields movie.

What were you like as a kid?

I was tall and skinny, and I tried lot of different things to put on weight. I used to have a powdered breakfast drink with every meal. I also kept a checklist on the refrigerator to record all the food I ate. But I never succeeded in gaining weight.

What sports do you play?

I play touch football, baseball, and basketball. I like baseball and basketball the best. And in high school, I played lacrosse.

Do you have any questions for Herb? He'll answer some in a future issue. Send them to:
